Community

A space to share.
No judgement. No prerequisites.

The Mind Project community is a moderated space where people across Africa share what they are going through. You do not need a diagnosis. You do not need the right words. You just need to show up.

About communities

Connection is part of recovery.

Mental health is not only an individual matter. Recovery and resilience grow in connection with others. Communities are spaces, in person or online, where people with shared experiences support one another, share information, and remind each other that they are not alone.

The kinds of communities we include

Peer support groups bring together people living with a similar condition, for example anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or psychosis, to share coping strategies and encouragement. Caregiver and family groups support the people who care for a loved one, who carry their own quiet load. Condition specific communities focus on one area, such as new mothers, students, or people in recovery from substance use. Online communities and moderated forums allow people to connect across distance, which matters in a country where services are unevenly spread. Faith and community based groups offer support within existing trusted structures.

What makes a community safe and useful

A healthy community has clear, kind ground rules, some form of moderation so that members are protected from harm and misinformation, respect for privacy, and a clear understanding that peer support complements but does not replace professional care. Where a group is linked to clinical guidance, that should be stated plainly.

Community guidelines

This community has one rule above all others: be kind.

These guidelines exist because someone in this space is having the worst week of their life. We keep it safe for them.

01
No unsolicited advice

Unless someone asks for advice, don't give it. Sometimes people just need to be heard. Ask before you advise.

02
No stigmatising language

Language that diminishes, mocks, or defines people by their condition is not welcome here. We name conditions, not people.

03
No sharing of methods

Any content describing methods of self-harm or suicide will be removed immediately and the account reviewed.

04
No medical advice

You can share your experience with medication or treatment. You cannot advise others on what to take or stop. Always recommend professional help.

05
Confidentiality

What is shared in community spaces stays there. Do not screenshot, quote, or share other members' contributions outside this space.

06
Active moderation

Moderators are trained in mental health-informed moderation. If you see something harmful, report it. We act promptly.
